Shri Kshetra Thodar
The Hosangadi Palace has traditionally had under its control nine villages in the vicinity including Thodar, Ladi, Hosabettu, Karpe, Marnad, Kallabettu, Karinje, Maarooru and Pucchimogaru. Thodar, being one of them, has till date sustained its age-old natural glory by keeping intact the forests and small hills. Alongside the natural beauty of Tulunadu, Thodar is also a divine destination that has upheld the religious and spiritual values of the land through divine and spirit worship.
Kodamanithaya, through its fully functional institutions such as Guttu and devotees has always facilitated the well-being of the village, in turned being vigorously respected by the common people.
Moodubidre, the famed ‘Jaina Kashi’ and ‘Shikshana Kashi’ (educational pilgrimage) stands as a prominent landmark of undivided Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. On the highway from Moodubidre to Mangalore, one encounters a glorious gateway at a distance of 5.5 kilometres. On entering the gateway and proceeding up to nearly 2 kilometres, one approaches the magnificient Nadu Nadyodi Kodamanithaya Daivasthana that divinely lies in the midst of lush and serene greenery. The Daivasthana that faces eastwards has a royally elegant conical tower or gopura, with adjacently lying resting towers. The sanctum sanctorum is constructed in a traditional manner, with a statue of Nandi placed facing the deity as a symbol of divine worship as well. As architectural norms require of temples, here too, the flag pole is placed opposite to the deepasthamba. Towards the right of Kodamanithaya garadi, is the Bramha Baidarkala garadi.
This combination of aspects of divine worship and spirit worship at this Daivasthaana is evidence for the fact that Kodamanithaya is the deity, as well as the guarding spirit of Thodar. His ideals have always been conveyed in a stern manner that allows freedom of life of choice, but never that of pride or arrogance. Owing to this stern ethos of the deity, he has been respectfully worshipped over the years and acknowledged as the ruling power from Neralakatte to Kalsanka. By the wills and powers of Kodamanithaya himself, this destination has grown wildly popular over the years.
